As part of efforts towards flattening the curve of coronavirus in the country, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has presented Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the Ogun State Government.
Receiving the PPEs on behalf of the State Government, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele appreciated the Nigerian Army for supporting government’s efforts in providing necessary equipment to both the health sector and patients.
She added that it was commendable that the donated items were locally produced in Nigeria by the Defence Industry, pointing out that this challenging period has prompted many people to look inward and bring out their initiatives in
“The pandemic is all over the world and everyone is minding their businesses as it were but now, we have to look within ourselves in Nigeria to see what we can do to support ourselves. We have had to use Nigeria manpower to manage all the equipment we are to use, we have had to re-configure equipment that we have and this has shown the inherent capacity in our system here in Nigeria”, she stressed.
The Deputy Governor added that, the equipment being donated would be taken to the health sector, particularly, the PPE for the health care practitioners, who were on the frontline of the battle, to keep the patients well.
According to her, “a lot of policies had been put in place by the present administration to ensure that health workers received the best in terms of insurance policies and hazard allowances, as well as having right equipment to work with”.
She added that sensitization and enlightenment campaigns were ongoing at various markets in the State, with the provision of handwashing facilities to keep the citizens safe.
Earlier in his presentation, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who was represented by General Officer Commanding 81 Division in charge of Lagos and Ogun, Major General Joseph Irefin, pointed out that, in a bid to support the State in its fight against the pandemic, the Nigeria Army has presented PPEs which included; Sanitizers, Hand gloves, Aprons, Nose Masks and buckets, as well as, other items that could help in curbing the virus.
