Delta Police nab notorious criminals, cultists

Men of the anti-Crime Patrol team attached to Ibusa Division, Delta State, have arrested one Ekene Okonji, ‘m’, a.k.a. “galaxy”, a notorious criminal, for terrorising the community and its environs.

Delta State Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bright Edafe, told newsmen in Asaba, on Monday that the suspect was arrested on May 27, at about 8:30 p.m.

Edafe said when the police searched the suspect, one locally-made cut-to-size short gun, and seven live cartridges were recovered from him, while the investigation is ongoing.

He said following the restiveness in the oil-producing Ugboren Community of Sapele council, combined teams of Policemen and men of the Nigerian army attached to 91 battalions raided a shrine in Sapele community, Delta State and arrested two suspects.

According to him, the two suspects were found with what he called FNC assault rifles.

He said: “Command Raiders Operatives, while on investigation activities along Asaba-Benin Expressway in Okpanam, intercepted hoodlums suspected to be cultists.

“The suspects on sighting the team took to their heels, but the team chased them and in the process arrested six of the suspects namely: Sunday Okafor Destiny, Stephen Osamota Pius and four others. “One locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun, six expended cartridges and one 9mm live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.”
