Obasanjo pledges support for Ota monarch

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has pledged his unflinching support for the new Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege.

Obasanjo who paid a courtesy visit to the monarch in his palace in Ota promised to do everything possible to assist the monarch succeed.

He thanked the monarch for paying him a visit shortly after his coronation as Olota of Ota and enjoined the sons and daughters of Ota to support the monarch in his efforts to bring development to the area.

Oba Obalanlege, who was until his enthronement, an associate Professor at the postgraduate school of Crescent University, Abeokuta said he has found in Obasanjo a reliable personality and someone that can be trusted.

Obasanjo disclosed during the visit that in his effort to support the monarch, he had spoken to his friend who is the General overseer of the Living Faith International (Winners Chapel) in Ota to be ready to uplift the environment because he made his success on the soil of Ota and he should be ready to give back to the land in which he had succeeded.

He also enjoined the indigenes of Ota to ensure that unity prevails among them, as there is no alternative route to sustainable success.

”I must greet you all and I must salute the humility of this monarch because after his coronation he visited me and I pray that as he has honoured me, may Almighty God honour him too.

“Firstly, you must understand that where there is unity things will go on smoothly and as a result you must all ensure that you are united because that is the only route to sustainable development.

“My promise here today is that I will not be far from you and please you too don’t be far from me.

“Also on the clamour for the construction of itele, Ilogbo roads, I promise that during your reign that the roads would be constructed.

“I have spoken to my friend Bishop David Oyedepo on giving back to the Ota community because he did not start his ministry in Ota but he became successful on the soil of Ota and I am using this opportunity to pray for him that he will continue to succeed in his ministry.”

Earlier, the monarch appreciated Chief Obasanjo and sought his support for a successful reign.

Obalanlege also pleaded with Obasanjo to come and build a library in Ota like he did in Abeokuta Capital of Ogun since the town is closer to Lagos so as to attract stakeholders to the town.

The Ota monarch added a title to the title given to Obasanjo by the late Ota monarch, Oba Alani Obalanlege, as Star of Ota.

Obalanlege first gave him a name “Omobowale” (a child has come home) and then gave him a title as “Arenigbekele Safojudi”.

Dignitaries who graced the visitation include the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, Senator representing Ogun West, Senator Gbolahan Dada, Senator Akin Odunsi, Chairman Local Government Commission, Mr Rotimi Rahman, Ota Local Government Chairman and the Sobaloju of Ota-land, Hon Dele Adeniji, Hon Aina, a lawmaker in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Others were newly upgraded Obas in Ota, the Towulode of Akinale Olujana of Ijana town, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, the Olukotun of Ikotun town, Oba Clement of Ikosi town, Ariwajoye Akogun Oruba of Ota and Oba Wadudu Ajani Dehinde.
