Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has advised all road users to abide by traffic regulations during and after the yuletide period.
Oyeyemi gave the advice at a news conference shortly after he paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Seyi Makinde on Oyo state in Ibadan on Wednesday.
He assured the general public that there would be smooth flow of traffic during the festive period as a result of the structure already put in place by the commission.
“I am here to adopt the review of our road traffic plans for the Yuletide.
”Gov. Makinde gave me a lot of cheering news about the Ibadan-Ife road. He said other on going road infrastructure projects will be completed, hopefully before the end of 2022.
“And all these will take traffic away from the urbanised areas within the state.
“We are working with the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency to make all roads free of traffic,” he stated.
The FRSC boss further said that the commission had opened new commands in the state with additional vehicles to enhance the activities of its officers.
Makinde appreciated the visit of the Corps Marshal and pledged that his administration would continue to cooperate with the FRSC in addressing challenges that impact the local environment.
He said that the existing cooperation between his government and the commission is cordial and that he would continue to build on it.
The governor further said that it is important for states to collaborate with the Federal Government and its agencies to resolve issues that have impacted on the local environments.
“What you have seen here today is a demonstration of how cooperation can exist between a state government and a federal agency.
“Road safety actually started in Oyo state, we are talking about issues and challenges that have impacted our local environment.
“It is one of the hallmarks of that type of cooperation for the Federal Government, federal agency and state government, coming together to resolve such issues,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the FRSC Sector Commander, Mrs Chukwurah Uche, and top officers of the commission were among the Corps Marshal’s entourage.
