2019 AFCON Qualifier: Trouble for Rohr as Eagles’ top striker suffers injury

The Super Eagles may be without striker Odion Ighalo as they face South Africa in a 2019 African Cup of qualifier on November 17.

Ighalo was on song for the Eagles in their back-to-back Afcon 2019 qualifier with Libya last month.

The Changchun Yatai man scored five goals in the games to shot the three-time African champions to the top spot in Group E of the race to Cameroon.

However, the former Watford man is a major doubt for Gernot Rohr’s men as they seek to revenge a 2-0 loss to the Bafana Bafana in the first leg of the qualification clash in June 2017.

He was subbed in the 17th minute of Yatai’s tie with Tianjin Quanjin in a Chinese Super League clash on Wednesday after the injury.

The team has not given an update yet on the development at the time of this report.

Ighalo has scored 21 times for his club this team, making him the second highest goalscorer in the league.

Concise had reported that Eagles number one goalkeeper Francis Uzoho had been ruled out of the tie with South Africa following an injury over the weekend in Spain.
