England defeated China 6-1 in their final group D match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, advancing to the round of 16 against Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Monday next week.
They won all of their group games, putting them among the favourites to win the championship. The European Champions, however, do not frighten Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum’s charges.
“We will be prepared and don’t count us out against England,” Waldrum said.
Against all predictions the Super Falcons came second in group B where they were the least rated team. They pulled a draw against Olympic Champions Canada, shocked hosts Australia 3-2 and drew with Ireland in their last game.
Waldrum said despite the fact his team was the least equipped coming to the world cup, the Nigerian women have carried on with determination.
“The Super Falcons haven’t been given everything other federation have been given.
“But they have been given the opportunity to get here and they have to put everything into it.
“I give credit to the players they are an amazing group.
“They all believe they are destined for something special in this world cup. Our journey is not yet over and we would be very prepared to face any team next week.
