2026 WCQ: ‘I choose the team’ — Chelle warns Super Eagles players after Rwanda win

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has emphasized that he alone is responsible for selecting the team.

In his first match in charge, Chelle fielded a highly attacking starting lineup, featuring Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon in the forward positions.

Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi anchored the midfield in what seemed to be a modified 4-2-4 formation.

However, Chelle chose to exclude players like Victor Boniface, Umar Sadiq, and Raphael Onyedika from the lineup.

Speaking after the match, Chelle said: “It is my responsibility to set up the system. We tried two different systems in the team. We need to improve. It was the first game, and we are going back to work for the second game.”

He added: “Every player in the team is capable of playing. We need to work together to achieve the goal of qualifying for the World Cup.

“We have great players. Today, the team performed well. My job is to make the decisions, decide on the system, and select the right personnel.”

Osimhen scored twice as the Super Eagles moved to fourth place in Group C with six points from five games.
