20th NSF: 21 states’ contingents arrive Benin – official

Twenty one states’ contingents have so far arrived Benin, Edo, for the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) that will officially kicks off on Sunday.

Musa Ebomhiana, a Project Manager in the Media and Communication Sub-Committee for the games, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Saturday.

He said that six additional states arrived Benin to join the 15 states that had arrived on Friday for the festival tagged `Edo 2020’.

Ebomhiana said though Friday was designated for the arrival of states’ contingents for the 20th NSF, he said that additional states were still being expected before Tuesday, a day set for the festival’s opening ceremony.

He said that all is set for the successful hosting of the festival that is expected to commence on Sunday and last till April 14.

“The games are here and Edo is set for the biggest sports show piece in the country.

“All needed for the successful hosting of the NSF have been put in place by Edo Government,” Ebomhiana said.

NAN reports that the 20th NSF suffered several postponements owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival is expected to see the athletes competing for 3000 medals from a total of 33 sports.

The festival will take place in 22 venues with athletes expected from the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
