3e Actuaries Golf Open: Odoh keeps title hope alive in Mongomo

Two-time champion – Nigeria’s Oche Odoh worked his pre-tournament intention with a superb start at the 2017 3e Actuaries Golf Open holding in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea.

As Nigeria’s leading light in the tournament, Odoh who is the 2014 and 2015 champion shot 70 with two under par to occupy the fifth place on Day One of the competition.

The Nigerian played with a lot of confidence scoring birdies in holes 4, 7, 8, 11 and 17 to put himself in top spot but his charge was thwarted when he dropped in holes 1, 5 and 14.

Zambia’s Madalitso Muthiya held sway on top of the log with 68 shot and 4 under par, while the trio of Zimbabwe’s Ben Follet-Smith, Britian’s Luke Joy and Zimbabwe’s Ryan Cairns tied on 69shots to occupy second, third and fourth places on the log.

Nigeria’s Haruna Mohammed and Sunday Olapade are tied on 17th position with 73 shots.

Olapade told newsmen after Day One that he hopes to raise his game on the second day of the qualifying round.

“This is just the first day as I was actually doing well until the last four holes where I played badly. I am hopeful that things will change for better tomorrow (today),” the 2017 Kwara Open champion said.
