Six teams to fight for Independence Cup in Kwara
No fewer than six teams will be featuring in two sporting events in Kwara to mark this year’s independence anniversary, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The teams are Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), First Bank Plc and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
They will be participating in the football and Table Tennis events expected to start on Tuesday.
The Coordinator of the programme, tagged Independent Cup, Shogo Shodunke, revealed this in interview with newsmen on Sunday in Ilorin.
The preliminaries stages will be decided on Sept. 30, while the final will be played on Independence Day, which is Friday, October 1, at the Indoor Hall of Kwara Stadium.
The competition aimed to celebrate Nigeria Independence and to emphasise the importance of freedom to people is organised by Phreestyle Sport Limited and supported by Kwara State Sports Commission.
The brain behind Phreestyle Sport Limited, Shogo Shodunnke, told sports writers that Table Tennis was added to this year’s edition to give more participation to others who may not make the football team and also stressed the need for team’s effort in achieving greatness.
Shodunnke added that the newly established Kwara State Sports Commission under the chairmanship of Malam Bola Mogaji has provided needed support to make the event memorable, just as he called on others who may want to partner with the concept.
NAN recalls that KWIRS defeated their NMA to lift the maiden edition of the Independent Cup played in 2019.
