Ademola Lookman praised Atalanta’s dominant 3-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in their UEFA Champions League matchday two encounter on Wednesday.
The win marked Gian Piero Gasperini’s side’s first triumph in this season’s Champions League campaign.
“I’m very happy with the victory. I think tonight’s victory was very important for us to make another step, stronger in Europe,” Lookman told Sky Sports.
Atalanta started their campaign in the competition with a 0-0 home draw against Arsenal.
Lookman highlighted the importance of building on the performance against the Gunners.
“I think, especially after our first performance against Arsenal at home, we put on a good performance, and to build up on that tonight and to score the goals and win was very important for us going ahead into the next busy schedule that we have,” he added.
The 26-year-old also expressed his gratitude to his teammates for their support, which helped him secure the Player of the Match award.
“It’s always nice to receive these awards. I wouldn’t have been able to do that without the team, and the team had a good performance today,” he declared.
