Two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is reportedly set to make his highly anticipated return to the octagon against France’s Nassourdine Imavov.
Brazilian contender Caio Barralho revealed that the Nigerian-New Zealander chose to face Imavov over him following discussions between both camps.
The bout, scheduled to headline the UFC’s first-ever event in Saudi Arabia in February 2025, marks Adesanya’s first non-title fight since his win over Anderson Silva in February 2019.
‘The Last Stylebender’ will aim to rebound from back-to-back defeats, including a submission loss to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 in August 2024. Despite recent setbacks, Adesanya remains one of the UFC’s most prominent figures, boasting a stellar 24-4 record with 16 knockout wins.
Known for his striking mastery and unconventional fighting style, the 35-year-old has already begun preparations for what is seen as a calculated matchup to regain momentum in the division.
Victory over Imavov, a rising star in the middleweight ranks, could position Adesanya closer to a historic third reign as middleweight champion, potentially setting up rematches against Sean Strickland or du Plessis.
The event forms part of Riyadh Season’s ambitious sporting programme, further underscoring Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in global sports.
For Adesanya, the fight presents not only a chance to secure another win but also an opportunity to cement his legacy as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of his generation.
