The Super Eagles have secured a spot in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals after recording an emphatic 4–0 win over Mozambique in their Round of 16 encounter in Fès.

Nigeria carried their impressive form into the knockout stage, extending their perfect run after winning all three group matches to finish top of Group C. Mozambique, who reached the Round of 16 for the first time as one of the best third-placed teams from Group F, were unable to withstand the Super Eagles’ intensity and attacking firepower.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman finished off an assist from Akor Adams. Victor Osimhen made it 2–0 five minutes later, and shortly after the restart, Lookman again turned provider as Osimhen struck in the 47th minute to extend the lead. Adams Akor rounded off the dominant display with Nigeria’s fourth goal in the 75th minute.

Wilfred Ndidi marshalled the midfield alongside Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi, while Stanley Nwabali returned between the posts. The defensive quartet of Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Bruno Onyemaechi ensured Mozambique were kept at arm’s length for the duration of the match.

Second-half changes saw Paul Onuachu and Samuel Chukwueze come on for Adams Akor and Lookman, while Tom Dele Bashiru and Onyedika replaced Onyeka and Ndidi as coach Eric Chelle rotated his midfield. Moses Simon was also introduced in place of Osimhen.

By the 80th minute, Nigeria had registered eight shots on target, with Mozambique failing to trouble Nwabali in goal.

The victory sends the Super Eagles into the quarter-finals as they continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title, where they will face the winners of the tie between Algeria and Congo DR.
