Another Super Eagles striker, Sadiq Umar, has been sidelined from the 2023 African Cup of Nations, with Paul Onuachu stepping in as his replacement.

This development follows the exclusion of striker Victor Boniface from the upcoming competition set to commence on January 13 in Ivory Coast.

Sadiq Umar, aged 26, sustained a knee injury during Nigeria’s 2-0 friendly loss to the Syli Stars of Guinea on Monday.

However, a statement released on Friday via the official Super Eagles account on X confirmed that Paul Onuachu would take the place of Sadiq Umar.

“Sadiq Umar is out of the AFCON 2023 squad due to injury and Paul Onuachu replaces him.”

Onuachu participated in the AFCON 2019 finals held in Egypt.

Unfortunately, he was unable to take part in the previous competition in Cameroon due to an injury. In the current season, Onuachu, playing for Trabzonspor, has recorded nine goals and three assists in 15 games.
