Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze were among the first to arrive at the Super Eagles’ camp in Côte d’Ivoire on Monday, as preparations began for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that six other players—Amas Obasogie, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Bruno Onyemaechi, Gabriel Osho, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru—also arrived in Abidjan on Monday.
The Super Eagles Media Officer confirmed to NAN that at least eight players had arrived, with others expected to join the camp on Tuesday.
Captain William Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Simon, reigning Africa Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, and 19 other players were invited for the qualifier.
The Super Eagles will aim for six points in their final two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign this month, as they face Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The team officially opened their camp in Abidjan on Monday in preparation for their encounter with the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday.
Following that, the Super Eagles are set to travel to Uyo on Friday for their final qualifying match against the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Monday.
Currently topping Group D, the Super Eagles will secure a spot in the final tournament with just one point against the Cheetahs, which would bring them to 11 points. This would leave only Rwanda with a mathematical chance of catching up.
With a current record of seven goals scored and none conceded (following the CAF Disciplinary Board’s decision to award three points and three goals for the canceled Matchday 4 game against Libya), the Super Eagles hold a clear advantage over the Rwandans.
Rwanda enters the final two matchdays with five points and a one-goal deficit.
