Africa U-17 Cup of Nations: Nigeria set up final clash with Ghana

Nigeria defeated Niger Republic 2-1 to reach the final of Wafu-Ufoa Zone B qualifiers for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

Goals from Olakunle Olusegun and Akinwunmi Amoo were all the Golden Eaglets needed to breeze past the hosts at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey.

Niger made an electric start by dominating for a large period of the game and looked good value to book their passage to the final.

But the Golden Eaglets somehow battled through their apparent jadedness to get the first goal through Amoo in the 43rd minute.

He tapped in from close range thanks to Muhammad Ibrahim’s assist as the opposing goalkeeper looked helplessly.

Olusegun doubled the lead in the 58th minute for his fourth goal of the championship. However, the Baby Menas got a goal in the closing stages of the tie but that could not hinder the former world champions.

With this, Nigeria will now face Ghana in the final on Saturday with the winner qualifying for the 2019 African U-17 Cup of Nations billed for Tanzania.

The Black Starlets silenced Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in the first semi-final played on Wednesday.
