Nigeria’s Flying Eagles began their journey in the men’s football competition at the 13th African Games in Ghana with a 2-1 loss to Uganda.

The opening Group B match took place on Thursday night at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legion.

Against expectations, the Nigerian team, coached by Ladan Bosso, conceded first in the 34th minute but managed to battle back and equalize, ending the first half on level terms.

However, they conceded again in the second half, ultimately handing all three points to their East African counterparts. The Junior Cranes’ relentless pressure in the second half paid off when Ivan Irinimbabazi scored the winning goal in the 81st minute.

Now, the Nigerian team must secure positive results from their remaining matches against South Sudan and Senegal to advance from the group stage.
