Al-Hilal set world record with 28th successive win

A team from the Saudi Pro League, Al-Hilal, have set a new world record for the most consecutive wins by a top-flight team.

Al-Hilal, Saudi Arabia’s most illustrious team, achieved their 28th consecutive victory in Tuesday’s 2-0 triumph over Al-Ittihad in the Asian Champions League. This feat surpasses the previous record of 27 straight wins set by Welsh club The New Saints in 2016.

Since their 1-1 draw with Damac on September 21st, Al-Hilal, featuring former Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic and ex-Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, among others, have emerged victorious in every fixture.

Additionally, Brazilian forward Neymar, who joined from Paris St-Germain last summer, is part of the squad, although he has been sidelined due to a serious knee injury since October.

Under the guidance of former Benfica and Flamengo manager Jorge Jesus, Al-Hilal currently holds a commanding 12-point lead over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

Mitrovic has been instrumental in the team’s success, contributing 26 goals out of a total of 81 scored during their winning streak.

This impressive run includes 16 league matches, three domestic cup fixtures, and nine in the Asian Champions League.

The victory on Tuesday secured a 4-0 aggregate triumph for Al-Hilal, propelling them into the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League.
