Al-Nassr has ceased efforts to sign Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma after the Seagulls made it clear they have no plans to sell the Japanese forward.
Brighton rejected a €65m (£54.42m) bid from the Saudi Pro League side and initially anticipated a higher offer. However, subsequent discussions between the clubs reinforced Brighton’s firm stance that the 27-year-old is not for sale, regardless of the bid amount.
The south coast club also believes Mitoma has no desire to leave the Amex Stadium. As a result, Al-Nassr has accepted that the deal will not proceed.
The Saudi Pro League transfer window closes on Friday evening.
Mitoma, who joined Brighton from J League side Kawasaki Frontale in 2021, has made 92 appearances and scored 18 goals in all competitions. He is the only Brighton player to feature in all 23 Premier League games this season, with Fabian Hurzeler’s team currently sitting ninth in the table.
In October 2023, Mitoma signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until June 2027.
