Alexander-Arnold scores late as Liverpool beat Fulham

In a seven-goal thriller at Anfield, Liverpool staged a remarkable late comeback, with Trent Alexander-Arnold securing a decisive 88th-minute winner to beat Fulham.

Trailing 3-2 in the 87th minute, Liverpool leveled the score as Wataru Endo netted his inaugural Premier League goal. Moments later, Alexander-Arnold completed the turnaround.

In the 20th minute, Alexander-Arnold played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s opening goal when his free-kick rebounded off the crossbar and into the net off Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Former Red Harry Wilson equalized just four minutes later, but Liverpool regained the lead at the 38th-minute mark through Alexis Mac Allister’s impressive long-range strike.

Fulham responded with Kenny Tete netting their second equalizer in injury time of the first half. Bobby De Cordova-Reid then headed the Cottagers into the lead in the 80th minute.

Fulham seemed poised to halt Liverpool’s 13-month undefeated streak at home in the Premier League. However, the Reds maintained their flawless record at Anfield for the season, narrowing Arsenal’s lead at the top to a mere two points. Marco Silva’s team remained in the 14th position.

Brilliant Reds complete late comeback

Liverpool leads the Premier League in points gained from losing positions this season, totaling 15.

Jurgen Klopp’s team not only orchestrated a thrilling comeback but did so with four outstanding goals.

Despite an early offside ruling on Mohamed Salah’s attempt, Alexander-Arnold showcased his skill with a superb curling free-kick from 25 yards, striking the woodwork and beating Leno on its way into the net.

Mac Allister’s goal, 18 minutes later, was even more impressive. The Argentine powered the ball into the top corner from a distance, marking his first goal for the Reds.

Liverpool appeared to be the more likely victors early in the second half, with forward Darwin Nunez having two clear opportunities. However, he struck the crossbar with one effort and sent another off target.

Fulham, on the other hand, dealt what seemed like a decisive blow on the counter-attack, putting Liverpool on the brink of their first home league defeat since their loss to Leeds in October 2022.

Nevertheless, spurred on by the Anfield crowd, Endo executed a fine shot from the edge of the box, followed by Alexander-Arnold controlling a lofted clearance with his knee and driving an effort into the bottom corner.

While Liverpool’s defense showed moments of vulnerability, questions may arise about goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, standing in for the injured Alisson, who could have performed better to prevent Fulham’s second goal, unable to clear the ball with his boot.

For now, the Reds will savor this thrilling victory.
