Arsenal manager Arteta agrees new contract until 2027

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed to a new three-year contract with the club.

Originally set to be out of contract at the end of the season, Arteta is now expected to remain at Arsenal until 2027.

The Spaniard was appointed in December 2019, replacing Unai Emery, after working as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Arteta led Arsenal to victory in the FA Cup final at the end of the 2019-2020 season, earning his first major trophy as a manager.

His new contract is anticipated to be confirmed before Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham.

Under Arteta, Arsenal has finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League for the past two seasons. The 42-year-old is focused on guiding the club to their first top-flight title since 2003-04.

After three matches this season, Arsenal is in fourth place, having won their first two games against Wolves and Aston Villa before drawing with Brighton.

As a player, Arteta made 150 appearances and also captained Arsenal.
