Arsenal to face reigning champions Man Utd in FA Cup third round clash

Defending champions Manchester United will travel to face 14-time FA Cup winners Arsenal in the third round of the competition.

Premier League leaders Liverpool are set to host League Two side Accrington Stanley, while Manchester City will welcome Salford City, owned by members of Manchester United’s famed ‘Class of 92’.

Non-league Tamworth, one of only two teams from outside the Football League still in the tournament, will host Tottenham Hotspur.

The third-round fixtures are scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, 11 January, when the 44 Premier League and Championship teams join the 20 lower-league and non-league clubs that advanced from the second round.

Manchester United fans at Old Trafford reacted with audible groans as the draw confirmed their challenging tie against Arsenal.

Salford City’s ownership group includes former Manchester United stars Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, and David Beckham.

Tamworth, the lowest-ranked team remaining, earned their matchup with Spurs by defeating League One’s Burton Albion on penalties.

Meanwhile, fellow National League club Dagenham & Redbridge will travel to face Championship side Millwall.

In an intriguing family matchup, Everton defender Ashley Young, 39, could face his 18-year-old son Tyler when the Toffees take on Peterborough United at home.

“Wow…dreams might come true,” posted former England international Young on X.

Elsewhere, Chelsea host League Two’s bottom club Morecambe, whose fellow fourth-tier strugglers Bromley travel to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
