Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is planning a major squad overhaul this summer as he aims to reshape his team for a serious Premier League title challenge.
Arteta is targeting at least four high-profile signings to bolster his squad and end the club’s title drought. The Gunners are on course for another season without silverware, having been eliminated from both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, while their Premier League hopes are slipping away. They currently trail league leaders Liverpool by six points, a gap that could widen to nine if Liverpool secure a win against Everton on Wednesday.
Although Arsenal remains in contention for the Champions League, club legend Paul Merson has expressed doubts about their chances following a poor display against Newcastle last week.
To facilitate the rebuild, Arteta is preparing to offload several players. According to *The Mirror*, the Spaniard has already approved the departure of seven first-team players. Raheem Sterling and Neto, both on loan from Chelsea and Bournemouth respectively, will leave the Emirates once their temporary deals expire. Sterling has managed just one goal in 18 appearances, while Neto has featured only once.
Additionally, Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Kieran Tierney, whose contracts are set to expire, are expected to leave as free agents. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, having started just four league games between them this season, are also deemed surplus to requirements.
While the sale of these players may not generate significant transfer funds, it will free up substantial room on the wage bill, enabling Arteta to focus on signing a new striker, defensive midfielder, and goalkeeper.
