Quadri Aruna benefited from his recent quarterfinal exit at the WTT Contender Budapest by rising to 19th in the latest world ranking released by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
Being the only player in the top 21 to gain two steps up in the latest ranking, Aruna remains the best rated African in the world ahead of Egypt’s Omar Assar rated 36 in the world.
Unlike Aruna who moved up from 21 to 19 , Egypt’s Ahmed Saleh dropped two steps to 53 while Aruna’s compatriot Olajide Omotayo also slide to 96 from 95 in the men’s rating.
Despite topping the women’s singles ranking in Africa as the best rated female African, Egypt’s Dina Meshref dropped to 38 from 37.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s best rated female player in the world, Offiong Edem dropped three steps to 119 in the latest ranking.
Meanwhile, China’s Fan Zhendong continues to lead the men’s world ranking as the world number one with compatriots Ma Long and Xu Xin in second and third places respectively. China’s Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha are first and second on the women’s world ranking, with Japan’s Mima Ito trailing closely behind in third place.
Monaco’s Yang Xiaoxin Yang reached her career-best position of 34th place on the ITTF world ranking following her victory in the Women’s Singles final at WTT Contender Budapest last week.
