Aston Villa have secured the loan signing of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

The 27-year-old joins on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent for £40 million.

According to Manchester United sources, the agreement ensures that at least 75% of Rashford’s wages will be covered by Villa, although no loan fee is involved in the deal.

Writing on Instagram Rashford said: “I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen.

“I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the manager’s ambitions. I just want to play football and am excited to get started.

“I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.”

After being dropped for the Manchester derby in December, England international Marcus Rashford expressed his readiness for “a new challenge,” paving the way for his loan move to Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Villa is reportedly close to securing Spain midfielder Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Wolves on Saturday, Villa manager Unai Emery emphasized the need for reinforcements, saying the club “needs new players.”

The January transfer window has already seen Villa bring in Spanish full-back Andres Garcia from Levante and Dutch forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.

However, they also parted ways with key players, including Colombia striker Jhon Duran, who joined Al-Nassr in a £71 million deal, and centre-back Diego Carlos, who transferred to Fenerbahce for approximately £8.45 million.

Injury woes continue to plague the team, with England striker Ollie Watkins leaving the pitch injured on Saturday and central midfielder Boubacar Kamara filling in at centre-back due to the absences of Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings.

Additionally, the club confirmed that 19-year-old defender Kosta Nedeljkovic has joined RB Leipzig on loan for the remainder of the season. Nedeljkovic has made just two starts for Villa since his January 2024 arrival from Red Star Belgrade.
