Italian club Juventus have completed the £42.35m (€50 million) signing of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
The 26-year-old Brazilian has signed a five-year contract with the Serie A team, ending his tenure at Villa Park.
Luiz, who has earned 15 caps for Brazil, scored 22 goals in 204 appearances for Villa since joining from Manchester City in 2019. He is currently in the United States with Brazil’s national team for the Copa America, where he underwent his medical for Juventus.
“I’m really happy to be a Bianconero,” Luiz said in a social media video. “I can’t wait to play at the Allianz Stadium. See you soon and Forza Juve!”
Last season, Luiz scored nine goals in 35 Premier League matches, helping Villa qualify for the Champions League for the first time by finishing fourth. However, Villa needed to sell him to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which allow Premier League clubs to incur losses of up to £105m over three years.
Villa have also sold midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, 21, to Everton for a reported £9m, while Chelsea completed a £19m transfer for their 18-year-old attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman.
