Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been named the club’s Player and Goal of the Month for August.

The Forest website announcement revealed that Awoniyi garnered 83% of the votes for the Player of the Month honor and 38% for Goal of the Month.

Awoniyi has scored three goals and provided one assist in his first four Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest this season.

In August, Awoniyi scored three goals in three matches, extending his scoring streak to seven consecutive Premier League games. He is only the third African player to achieve this feat, after Emmanuel Adebayor and Mohamed Salah.

Awoniyi’s nine goals in seven consecutive Premier League games made him the first Nottingham Forest player to achieve this feat. He was subsequently nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.

He got on the scoresheet as Nigeria defeated São Tomé and Príncipe 6-0 in the final game of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on Sunday in Uyo.

The victory propelled the Eagles to the top spot in Group A with 15 points, while Guinea-Bissau secured second place and a spot in next year’s tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
