The biggest individual prize in football takes centre stage tonight, and the spotlight is on Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.

Football’s most prestigious individual award celebrates its 70th anniversary at the London Palladium Theatre on Monday, October 26. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. GMT, or 9 p.m. Nigerian time.

Harry Kane has a powerful statistical case for football’s most prestigious individual award. According to Opta Analyst, the Bayern Munich striker scored 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 club season, including 36 Bundesliga goals, earning him the European Golden Shoe. His remarkable consistency in front of goal makes him a serious contender for the Golden Ball.

But the competition is fierce. Kylian Mbappé scored 42 goals in 44 club appearances and finished as the Champions League’s top scorer with 15 goals, while Lamine Yamal recorded 24 goals and 17 assists for Barcelona. Fabián Ruiz and Vitinha also strengthened their cases through their contributions to PSG’s European success, while Ruiz was part of Spain’s World Cup-winning campaign.

The big question: should individual statistics outweigh major trophies and performances on the biggest stage?
