Barca lacks balance, prefer Bayern or Arsenal to win UCL title – Henry

Thierry Henry has voiced concerns over Barcelona’s European credentials, suggesting that Bayern Munich and Arsenal currently hold a superior edge in the race for the Champions League trophy.

His comments followed a dramatic Tuesday night where a late Lamine Yamal penalty rescued a 1-1 draw for Barcelona against Newcastle, while a rampant Bayern Munich demolished Atalanta 6-1 on the road.

Speaking on CBS Sports, the Arsenal and Barcelona legend highlighted a stark contrast in tactical discipline between the top contenders. Henry praised the German giants for their stability, stating, “I think Bayern are much more balanced than Barca in terms of attacking and defensive transitions, and their overall structure.”

He noted that even without Harry Kane in the starting lineup, Bayern’s players—including the versatile Nicolas Jackson—demonstrated a clear understanding of their roles and pressing triggers.

In contrast, Henry pointed to Barcelona’s wild fluctuations in form as a major red flag. He referenced their crushing 0-4 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey as evidence of a defensive fragility that could be exploited.

“Barca are sometimes too inconsistent,” Henry remarked, explaining that while they are capable of winning by massive margins at home, their lack of balance makes them vulnerable. He insisted that if they want to be considered the ultimate favorite, they must find a way to stabilize their performances.

Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher echoed these sentiments, flatly stating that he believes “Bayern or Arsenal will be stronger than Barca” as the tournament progresses. With Arsenal entering their clash against Bayer Leverkusen on the back of a perfect eight-win group stage record, the pressure is now on Hansi Flick’s Barcelona to prove the doubters wrong in the second leg at the Camp Nou.
