Barcelona have announced the departure of their captain, Sergi Roberto.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy at the age of 14 and made his first-team debut in November 2010.
During his time with the club, Roberto made 373 appearances and scored 19 goals, including the decisive goal in the unforgettable 6-5 aggregate win against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2017 Champions League last-16 tie.
Roberto, who earned his last of 11 caps for Spain in 2021, captained Barcelona during the 2023-24 season. His departure was confirmed following the expiration of his contract at the end of June.
His trophy cabinet at Barcelona includes two Champions League titles, seven La Liga championships, six Copa del Rey victories, and two Club World Cups.
In a statement, Barcelona highlighted Roberto’s “versatility,” noting that he played a significant portion of his matches at right-back.
