Barcelona held to draw by Valencia

Barcelona extended their winless streak to three games after securing a draw against Valencia in La Liga.

Xavi’s team aimed to rebound after back-to-back losses, a 4-2 defeat to Girona in the league and a 3-2 setback against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League.

Their positive response seemed likely when Joao Felix converted Raphinha’s close-range cross. However, Hugo Guillamon’s splendid strike into the top corner secured a draw for Valencia.

The outcome elevated Barcelona to third place, albeit trailing leaders Girona by six points, who have a game in hand.

Late in the game, the visitors had superior chances to secure a victory, but Valencia’s goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili displayed excellent form. He thwarted a close-range effort from substitute Ferran Torres and then denied Raphinha’s attempt, with Yarek Gasiorowski impressively blocking the follow-up on the goal line.

With this draw, Valencia occupies the 10th position with 20 points from 17 games.
