The Barcelona manager, Xavi, has announced his decision to resign at the conclusion of the current season.
After departing Qatari club Al Sadd, the ex-Barcelona and Spain midfielder assumed the managerial role in November 2021.
He successfully led the team to the Spanish title during his initial full season in 2022-23. However, their 5-3 home defeat by Villarreal on Saturday has now placed them 10 points behind La Liga frontrunners Real Madrid.
“I think the situation needs to change course,” said the 44-year-old. “I cannot allow the current situation.”
