Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten continues with thrilling late comeback victory

Bayer Leverkusen staged a thrilling comeback to prevent their first loss of the season and secure a 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga.

Leverkusen’s impressive 38-game unbeaten streak appeared in jeopardy as they trailed 1-0 with less than five minutes left in regular time.

Robert Andrich leveled the score for the league leaders in the 88th minute after Maximilian Beier had opened the scoring for the hosts.

The dramatic turnaround was completed with a 91st-minute winner from Patrik Schick.

Currently, Leverkusen sits 13 points ahead of Bayern Munich, who are scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund later in the day.

This match marked Leverkusen’s first since manager Xabi Alonso announced his decision to remain at the club next season, dispelling rumors linking him with Liverpool or Bayern Munich.

Despite a resilient performance from seventh-placed Hoffenheim, who took the lead through Beier’s connection with Wout Weghorst in the penalty area, Leverkusen managed to exert immense pressure. Quick goals from Andrich and Schick secured the victory, extending their unbeaten streak to 39 games across all competitions.

With only seven games remaining in the season, Leverkusen seems poised to clinch their first league title.
