Bayern Munich has announced a “positive” initial diagnosis regarding Harry Kane’s ankle injury after he limped off during their 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
The England captain, 31, was substituted in the 86th minute of the Bundesliga match at the Allianz Arena following a tackle by Leverkusen’s Amine Adli.
Bayern confirmed that Kane “suffered a painful blow to his ankle,” but medical examinations on Sunday indicated encouraging progress.
Vincent Kompany’s team is set to face Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday, and Kane reportedly expressed confidence on Saturday night that he will be fit for the trip to Villa Park.
Leverkusen had taken the lead in Munich through Robert Andrich, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner after a pass from Granit Xhaka.
Bayern responded with a spectacular 25-yard strike from Aleksandar Pavlovic, which found the top corner despite goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky getting a hand to it.
Early in the second half, Serge Gnabry hit the post from Kane’s floated cross and struck the crossbar with the rebound.
Alphonso Davies shot wide from the edge of the box, while Konrad Laimer’s effort narrowly missed the post as Bayern pressed for a winner.
Bayern remains at the top of the table, two points ahead of RB Leipzig and three points clear of defending champions Leverkusen.
