Belgian footballer Radja Nainggolan, 36, has been arrested in connection with an investigation into cocaine trafficking.
Nainggolan was among several suspects detained by Belgian police on Monday morning following a series of coordinated raids conducted nationwide.
“The investigation concerns alleged facts of importation of cocaine from South America to Europe, via the port of Antwerp, and its redistribution in Belgium,” the Brussels prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
No additional details about the case have been made public.
The arrest occurred just six days after Radja Nainggolan ended his retirement to join Lokeren, a club in Belgium’s second division.
He marked his debut with a goal, securing a 1-1 home draw against K. Lierse.
Born in Antwerp, Nainggolan enjoyed a distinguished career in Italy, representing clubs like Roma and Inter Milan.
Between 2009 and 2018, he earned 30 caps for the Belgian national team.
