Belgium apologise for ‘kick Mbappe’ video
Belgium issued an apology after a video surfaced on their social media channels featuring Amadou Onana suggesting he would target France captain Kylian Mbappe when the teams face off in the last 16 of the European Championship.
The two nations are set to meet on Monday in Dusseldorf (kick-off at 17:00 BST).
The video showed comedian Pablo Andres singing “Who will kick Mbappe’s shin?” to which Everton midfielder Onana, 22, responded with “Amadou Onana”.
The Royal Belgian Football Association subsequently removed the video from their platforms.
Stefan van Loock, the spokesperson for Belgium media, apologized during the team’s daily news conference on Saturday.
“The video was intended to be humorous but has since been taken offline,” added Van Loock.
The video was not well received on social media in France and attracted widespread media coverage.
