Mohamed Ben Romdhane scored in stoppage time to hand Tunisia a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Monday, sealing their place at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

The win gave Tunisia an unassailable lead in Group H, making them the second African nation to qualify after Morocco.

The Carthage Eagles now sit on 22 points from eight matches, 10 clear of second-placed Namibia, who still have a game in hand but cannot catch them.

Ben Romdhane, a midfielder for Egyptian giants Al Ahly, struck in the 94th minute after Firas Chaouat set him up.

Tunisia began the match in Malabo with a squad featuring players from nine different countries, including Premier League midfielder Hannibal Mejbri of Burnley.

The team is managed by Sami Trabelsi, a former defender who captained Tunisia at the 1998 World Cup in France.

Elsewhere, Morocco extended their perfect run in Group E with a 2-0 win over Zambia, thanks to goals from Youssef En Nesyri and Hamza Igamane.

In Maputo, Mozambique defeated Botswana 2-0 — a result that ensured leaders Algeria cannot seal qualification from Group G later on Monday, even if they beat Guinea away.
