Bologna v AC Milan in Serie A postponed after floods

Saturday’s Serie A match between Bologna and AC Milan was postponed due to severe rain and flooding in the area.

Representatives from both clubs and Serie A officials met on Friday to explore alternative plans after Bologna’s mayor, Matteo Lepore, announced the match would be suspended.

However, no solution could be agreed upon, with options like playing behind closed doors in Bologna or at a neutral venue being ruled out.

A new date for the fixture at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara has not yet been confirmed.

“The match is postponed because with a decision that in my opinion is incomprehensible, the mayor has prohibited the match from being played even behind closed doors,” AC Milan chairman Paolo Scaroni told reporters after the meeting.

The municipality of Bologna said the game would bring 35,000 people near the most critical area of the city.

AC Milan are due to take on Serie A leaders Napoli on Tuesday, while Bologna travel to Cagliari.
