Tensions flared on the pitch during Bayer Leverkusen’s match against Frankfurt on Saturday, as Nigerian striker Victor Boniface and Argentine midfielder Emi Buendía clashed over a contested shot attempt.
The altercation began when Buendía narrowly missed an initial shot inside the box.
As he prepared for a second attempt, the ball shifted into Boniface’s path, prompting both players to simultaneously go for the strike.
Boniface ultimately took the shot, but it was blocked by a defender.
Following another blocked effort that led to a corner kick, Boniface and Buendía engaged in a heated argument, requiring intervention from teammates to diffuse the situation.
The incident sparked widespread debate among football fans on social media, with opinions split over who was at fault.
Whats name of that black player that intervened? If he’s not the captain then the Alonso should make him one. And Boniface dey craze for not keeping his cool there. Buendia also is stupid too https://t.co/FTOUrU4vtM

The heated argument between Victor Boniface and Emiliano Buendía is not something to be viewed negatively, Both Boniface and Buendía displayed a relentless drive to score and a shared commitment to team success.pic.twitter.com/4FFKsH8QXD

Many years in Europe, and Boniface hasn’t shown any disrespect to his teammates or coaches except for one incident. We are quick to condemn our own.
During the Lookman/Gasparini issue, I was so sure that even Lookman’s letter indicated he wouldn’t even go near the penalty…

Except Buendia uttered something offensive, I don’t see why Boniface would react this way. They were both in a position to take the shot, and it’s okay if they bump into each other in the attempt. They both had their eyes on the goal. https://t.co/gvGre1wzUg

Boniface is right here. He is the striker in the team and has the 100% right to strike first as its his primary duty.
Buendia was selfish. He mishit it on the 1st attempt and should let it go for someone who has 10X the amount of career goals he has. pic.twitter.com/zsDkV34uZ4

You can all see Boniface calling for a penalty before the pushing which happened right after Buendia said something to him. This is someone no one has ever seen thrown tantrums before, even when he gets dragged he’ll turn it to cruise.
This thing about Nigerians always ready to… https://t.co/6vvJszjkQB

This black guy knew the BONIFACE feeling he ran to him to make peace. Blessed are the peacemakers for they are called the children of God. pic.twitter.com/UqRzM5CB7b
