Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger Republic have announced a joint bid to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Nigerien Football Federation said the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had accepted a joint expression of interest submitted by the three countries.
The submission represents the initial stage of the bidding process and does not mean that the three nations have been awarded hosting rights for the tournament.
The football federations of the three countries presented the proposal after meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsepe in the United States during the final stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The proposed bid brings together the three members of the Alliance of Sahel States in a bid to host one of Africa’s biggest sporting events.
CAF officially opened the bidding process for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 AFCON tournaments earlier this month, inviting all 54 member associations to submit their proposals. The governing body said bids would be assessed based on technical, financial and legal requirements.
As part of the next stage, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger will be required to prepare a comprehensive hosting dossier outlining their stadiums, training facilities, transport infrastructure, accommodation and security arrangements.
CAF has not yet announced when the host of the 2032 edition will be selected or confirmed the complete list of competing bids.
If successful, the joint bid would see the AFCON return to Burkina Faso and Mali for the first time since 1998 and 2002 respectively, while Niger Republic would host the tournament for the first time.
