Nigerian referee Yemisi Eunice Akintoye is one of 18 officials selected by the Confederation of African Football, or CAF, to serve as referees for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Akintoye, who joined the Lagos State Football Referees Council in 2020, was signed by FIFA, the Federation of International Football Association.

At last week’s preparatory course in Cairo, Egypt, the 30-year-old made an impression.

In-depth technical examinations, physical fitness testing, and decision-making exams in a match-like setting were all part of the training.

Akintoye has officiated in a number of well-known competitions, such as the WAFU B Women’s Champions League, the CAF Women’s Champions League, and the WAFU B U-20 Championship.

The WAFCON 2024 finals will take place in Morocco from Saturday, July 5 to Saturday, July 26, 2025.

The competition’s reigning champions are the South African Banyana Banyana.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria, who have won nine titles, are in Group B together with Algeria, Tunisia, and Botswana.
