In a development that has stirred reactions across African football, Cameroon’s national team has left out two of its most seasoned players, André Onana and Vincent Aboubakar, from the final list released for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.

Citing a post by Fabrizio Romano on Monday, Romano stated, “André Onana and Vincent Aboubakar have been left out of the Cameroon squad for the AFCON.”

This move represents a significant overhaul for the Indomitable Lions as they prepare for one of the continent’s premier football competitions.

The exclusion of Onana — a goalkeeper with experience at major European clubs — and Aboubakar, the long-time captain and veteran striker, suggests a shift in direction under the team’s revamped management.

The newly released squad also highlights a wider transition to younger and less-proven players who are now being given an opportunity to earn their place ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

Onana had sealed a loan transfer to Turkish club Trabzonspor for the rest of the 2025–26 season.
