Nigeria’s Home Eagles ended their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign on a high note, defeating Congo 2–0 in their final group game on Tuesday.
The Eagles started brightly and nearly struck inside the opening minute through Anas Yusuf, who fired over from close range. Congo threatened early as well, winning a penalty in the 10th minute, but VAR overturned the decision after a review. Both sides traded chances in a tense first half, with Akanni’s header and Japhet Mankou’s missed opportunity keeping the game goalless.
Nigeria finally broke through in the 56th minute when Sikiru Alimi nodded down a cross for Yusuf, who calmly slotted home to give the Eagles a deserved lead. From then on, the Nigerians dominated possession and pressed relentlessly, leaving Congo struggling to cope.
Despite failing to progress from the group stage, the Home Eagles leave the competition with pride, showcasing resilience and ending their run in style with a convincing win.
