Manchester United and Portugal forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has created another record as the number of people following him on Instagram hit over 500 million.

He is the first person to achieve the feat.

The Portuguese forward became the most followed person on Instagram when he reached 237 million followers in September 2021.

In February 2022, he reached 400 million, and in just 9 months after, Ronaldo created another record.

The latest record by Ronaldo did not really come as a surprise. The Portuguese star has been so much in the news lately.

On Saturday, he and Lionel Messi posed together on a chessboard, and the picture immediately went viral.

Ronaldo’s Twitter post about the same has garnered more than 1.6 million likes.

The Portugal superstar also made headlines for the whole of last week, after he appeared in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

In the interview, he directed jibes at Manchester United’s owners, manager Erik ten Hag, and club legend Wayne Rooney.

On Sunday night, the effect of the massive media coverage on Ronaldo’s activities was reflected in his followership on Instagram.

While Ronaldo remains the most followed person on the app, his long-time rival Messi remains the second-most followed with 376M.

The two iconic footballers are the only athletes in the top 10 of the most followed people on Instagram.
