The trial for alleged sexual assault involving former Brazil and Barcelona defender Dani Alves in Spain is scheduled to take place from February 5 to 7, 2024.
Alves, aged 40, has been held in custody since his arrest in January, facing accusations of assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub last year.
Initially denying any sexual encounter, he later acknowledged engaging in consensual sex with his accuser.
A Spanish prosecutor is seeking a nine-year prison sentence for Alves, along with a post-release restraining order and a payment of 150,000 euros (£130,000) in damages to the woman.
Following a formal indictment by a court in the Barcelona area in August, it was determined that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial.
Alves, who earned 126 caps for Brazil, participated in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Following his arrest, his contract with the Mexican club UNAM was terminated.
In Spain, allegations of rape are examined within the broader context of sexual assault, with convictions carrying potential prison sentences ranging from four to 15 years.
