Dosu seeks replacement for Uzoho in Super Eagles

Former Nigeria youth international, Joseph Dosu has advised Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro to replace Francis Uzoho with Adebayo Adeleye, Soccernet.ng reports.

Since becoming the Super Eagles’ head coach in May of last year, Peseiro has frequently used Uzoho as the team’s number one custodian.

When Uzoho was suspended, Peseiro gave Adeleye a starting spot in the 3-2 win over Sierra Leone during the AFCON qualifiers.

However, when put between the goalposts, Uzoho has not been very convincing for the three-time African champions.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper was at fault for a couple of goals that Nigeria conceded in October during international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

Uzoho did not impress in goal as the Super Eagles wobbled to two frustrating score draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Following Nigeria’s disappointing start to the World Cup qualifiers, Dosu believes Peseiro is unfair to stick with Uzoho, who rarely plays for his Cypriot side, Omonia Nicosia.

With the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament fast approaching, Dosu has urged the Super Eagles head coach to try out Adeleye, who has been in good form for Israel’s Hapoel Jerusalem.

“If Uzoho is not doing well, which can happen to any player, then let the coach look elsewhere and bring in a replacement,” the Atalanta 1996 gold medal-winning goalkeeper told Sport247.

“I am personally of the opinion that giving Adeleye a chance to prove himself will be the best decision for the coach.”

Uzoho has not kept a clean sheet in any of Nigeria’s last four games in all competitions, conceding six goals.

Peseiro penned for Zamelek coaching job

Egyptian giants Zamalek are searching for a new coach following the dismissal of Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio amid a series of disappointing results.

According to winwin, those upstairs at Zamalek have chosen a number of names  nominated to take over the task of coaching the team starting next January.

Among the candidates being considered for the vacant Zamalek coaching job are Jose Peseiro, Chile’s 1998 World Cup star Jose Luis Sierra, former Austria national team boss Franco Foda and ex-Spain national team scout Paulo Menezes.

Portuguese coach Paulo Menezes won the Cup and Super Cup titles with the Lebanese team Nejmeh, and also worked as an assistant to the Spanish legend Vicente del Bosque in training La Roja.

Zamalek’s Board of Directors have intensified serious negotiations with the aforementioned coaches to take over the managerial reigns of the White Knight.

In the meantime, the Board of Directors have appointed Motamed Gamal as caretaker manager until a new coach is hired.

Reacting to the news linking him with the vacant Zamalek coaching job, Peseiro did not deny or confirm the reports but indicated that he did not wish to make any statements at the moment.

Ahmed Salem, the official spokesman of Zamalek, confirmed that the leadership of the five-time African champions are negotiating with Peseiro and three other foreigners, adding that Peseiro is interested in coaching Zamalek but requested that he should be appointed after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
