The Super Eagles achieved full attendance yesterday in preparation for Sunday’s 2024 Africa Cup of Nations Group A final qualifying match against the Falcons of Sao Tome and Principe. The game is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Eight players trained on Wednesday morning, two more joined them in the evening, and team captain William Troost-Ekong led 11 others into the team’s camp on Thursday.
In pursuit of this objective, Coach Jose Paseiro had the complete roster of all 22 players present during the team’s inaugural full training session at the Nest of Champions. Francis Uzoho, Adebayo Adebayo, Bruno Onyemeachi, Frank Onyeka, Gift Orban, and Jordan Torunarigha were the early arrivals, followed by Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Tyronne Ebuehi.
Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Jamilu Collins, Bruno Onyemeachi, Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, Joe Aribo, Frank Onyeka, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi and Victor Boniface are in camp.
The Super Eagles defeated Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in the last meeting between the two teams last year. The visitors arrived in Nigeria yesterday with a new squad of entirely foreign-based players, and are confident of causing an upset, given the Super Eagles’ recent struggles at home.
The Super Eagles are currently top of their group with 12 points, two points ahead of Guinea-Bissau in second place. A win or draw in Sunday’s match will guarantee Nigeria a place at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire as group champions.
