Augustine Eguavoen will continue as the interim coach of the Super Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced on Thursday.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the NFF said Eguavoen’s extended appointment was based on a recommendation from its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the Federation’s Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen, to continue as Head Coach of the Super Eagles and lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month,” the statement read.

Eguavoen, 58, who has led the Super Eagles on three previous occasions, guided the team to a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and a scoreless draw with Rwanda in the first two matches of their AFCON qualifying campaign earlier this month.

In addition to his role as the NFF’s Technical Director, Eguavoen will now oversee the national team’s upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifying matches against Libya, scheduled for next month.

The NFF Executive Committee also approved the recommendation for Coach Justin Madugu to lead the rest of the technical team and oversee the Senior Women’s National Team, the Super Falcons, pending the appointment of a permanent head coach. This follows the recent departure of Randy Waldrum.

The Super Falcons’ next major tournament will be the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, set to take place in Morocco next summer.
