England midfielder Phil Foden leaves camp for birth of third child

England midfielder Phil Foden has left the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 camp in Germany and returned to the UK for the birth of his third child.

The Football Association released a statement indicating that the 24-year-old Manchester City player had to go home due to a “pressing family matter”.

Foden is expected to rejoin the squad by Sunday, in time for England’s last-16 match at 17:00 BST.

In April, Foden and his partner Rebecca Cooke announced on Instagram that they were expecting their third child. The couple already has two children: son Ronnie, five, and daughter True, two.

Foden, with 37 caps to his name, has started all three of England’s group games at the tournament, including the recent draw with Slovenia.

Gareth Southgate’s side topped Group C with five points from three matches.

Their last-16 tie is scheduled to take place in Gelsenkirchen, with their opponents to be determined after Wednesday’s final group games.
