Nine-time Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba International FC, have appointed Stanley Eguma, a highly respected tactician in Nigerian football, as their new head coach.
Eguma’s appointment follows the departure of former head coach Yemi Daniel Olanrewaju. A familiar figure at Enyimba, Eguma was part of the coaching staff during their historic CAF Champions League triumphs in the early 2000s.
He joins after a successful stint with Rivers United, where he secured league titles and cemented his reputation as one of Nigeria’s finest coaches. The club hopes his return will signal a revival, steering the “People’s Elephant” back to dominance in both Nigerian and African football.
Eguma’s immediate challenge is to stabilise the team and restore confidence among the players. With his deep understanding of the league and tactical expertise, he is well-positioned to guide Enyimba through this critical period.
Supporters are optimistic that Eguma will revive the club’s fortunes and return Enyimba to the pinnacle of Nigerian and continental football.
The appointment comes after a disappointing run of form under Olanrewaju, with Enyimba failing to win their last nine matches across domestic and continental competitions. The club acknowledged Olanrewaju’s contributions during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavours.
